 NAACP PRESS CONFERENCE – CALLS FOR THE CONNECTICUT STATE’S
ATTORNEY’S OFFICE OF THE DANIELSON SUPERIOR COURT
TO MAINTAIN THE HATE CRIME CHARGES
WITHOUT NEGOTIATIONS FOR A LESSER CHARGE

WINDHAM, CT – The Windham/Willimantic NAACP along with the Connecticut State Conference of NAACP Branches will hold a PRESS CONFERENCE on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Superior Court at Danielson to address the Hate Crime Charge of the arrested store manager of the Wendy’s Restaurant in Plainfield, CT.

The NAACP calls for the degree of charges to reflect all of the elements based on the Hate Crime Statutes. Connecticut General Statutes (CGS) § 53a-181i, as amended by PA 21-78, a person commits the 1st degree crime of intimidation based on bigotry or bias if he or she, maliciously and with specific intent to intimidate or harass someone, motivated in whole or substantial part by any of the attributes listed above, whether actual or perceived, caused physical injury to that person or a third person.

Any individual who commits this form of Hate Crime must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law according to applicable, federal, local and state laws.
